The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, an institution that stands at the forefront of our efforts to protect lives, property, and livelihoods in the face of both natural and human-induced disasters. Our region, with its rugged and vulnerable terrain, is exposed to a variety of hazards, including earthquakes, landslides, flash floods, and cross-border tensions, which have, in the past, caused significant losses.

The Government of AJK established SDMA in 2007 with the aim to provide a comprehensive framework for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery, with a focus on reducing risks and building resilience across communities and, from time to time, working on the capacity building of the institution and its stakeholders.
This authority is integral to our government’s vision of a safer, more resilient Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and is committed to proactive planning, effective coordination, and swift action in times of crisis. We understand that disaster management is a collective responsibility. I appreciate the SDMA working mechanism in close collaboration with government agencies, international partners, and local communities to ensure that every effort is made to mitigate the impact of disasters and to safeguard the well-being of our people.
